Musica Viva Poster Remake

Making Ideas Visible, taught by Sandra Isla at Academy of Art University. 15 week class, 4 week project.

For this project, I started with researching about the poster, the designer, time period, listening to the music, etc and translating the text. In the first week, we had constraints on what we could change about the poster. For example, at first we could only change position and scale, while keeping everything in greyscale and keep all elements on the poster. This helped me consider hierarchy of the text and elements. Over the next couple of weeks, we were able to explore color and opacity.

My concepts were derived from what the music felt like to me and trying to emulate that feeling through my color choices, scale, and contrast or using similar ideas the composer used to create their music.

Concept words: tension, intense, golden ratio, loud, minor (sound)

Below are my final 3 greyscale, full color, and imitation style posters. For the imitation posters, I chose 3 designers (Saul Bass, April Greiman, Paula Scher) to imitate their style with the Musica Viva text and elements.
